Lecture by Elena McGrath (Latin American Studies): "Who Killed Justa de Mamani? Gendered Violence and Worker Citizenship in the Bolivian National Revolution"

The talk, drawn from Professor McGrath's current research, is entitled, "Who Killed Justa de Mamani? Gendered Violence and Worker Citizenship in the Bolivian National Revolution."

Spring 2018 FolioFest: Panel discussion including Emily Scida and Matthew Street

Please join us for the Spring 2018 FolioFest on May 2, 2018 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM in the Language Commons (298 New Cabell Hall).  You are invited to come and see the ePortfolios created by students at UVa, to talk to them about their experience, and to listen to a panel discussion and Q&A by instructors who use ePortfolios in their teaching. Concert-Conversation with Natalia Serna from Corazón Norte

Please join us on Wednesday, April 25, from 5-6:30 pm in Open Grounds, Studio A (1400 University Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22903), for a concert-conversation with Natalia Serna on immigration justice at the U.S.A-Mexico border.
 
It will also be an opportunity to hear from the Latino Health Initiative, Sin Barreras, and the Charlottesville-area Immigrant Resource and Advocacy Coalition about the great work they are doing in our local community! Hope you can join!
 

Feria de la Salud y el Bienestar: Yoga en español con Alicia López Operé

This Saturday, April 21, from 10-2 pm, please join the UVa Health System's Latino Health Initiative and local non-profit Sin Barreras for the Feria de la Salud y el Bienestar. This event is free and open to the public. It will be held at the Church of the Incarnation (1465 Incarnation Drive, Charlottesville).

Professor Alicia López Operé will lead short meditations and collaborate with a yoga instructor to offer a bilingual class. Other classes include zumba and therapeutic massage.

3D printing for Medical Spanish: A talk by Alicia López Operé

Please join us on Thursday, April 26th, at 3:30 in the language commons (NCH 299) for a talk on "3D Printing for Medical Spanish." Professor Alicia López Operé will present, along with her students and collaborators in the Makers Studio in Wilson Hall and in the MAE lab in the Engineering School, the results of their project in the creation of 3D prints human models, skeletons and organs for my class Spanish for Medical Professionals.

Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be served.

We Are Here Diversity Festival: April 14, 10-3 pm, IX Park

Please join us for the We Are Here Diversity Festival, a UVA-sponsored initiative which aims to bring the UVA and Charlottesville communities together to create dialogues about diversity through the arts.

The festival will take place on April 14 from 10 am to 3 pm in IX Art Park, and it will feature local artists, performing groups, and non-profit organizations and a variety of activities to raise awareness and engagement about challenges faced by local minority groups.

The main two speakers for the event are:

“The future of literary history: Mass-digitized collections, literary data, and American fiction in the Antipodes”: A Talk by Katherine Bode (Australian National University)

On Tuesday, April 24 at 4pm, Katherine Bode will deliver a talk entitled “The future of literary history: Mass-digitized collections, literary data, and American fiction in the Antipodes.”  IHGC and the DH@UVa speaker series are co-sponsoring this event.
