From February 15th to 17th at Helms Theatre, the University of Virginia Spanish Theatre Group will be presenting the worldwide premiere in the original language of Spanish playwright Mar Gómez Glez’s Cifras.

Susana Baca Concert at UVa

Please join us on Sunday February 17 at 7 pm Old Cabell Hall for a concert by renowned Afro-Peruvian artist Susana Baca, two-time winner of the coveted Latin American Grammy Award.

Members of the UVA community may reserve tickets until February 3. [Please, show valid UVA ID to claim tickets at the Box Office]. The general public may pick up tickets beginning February 3. Two tickets maximum per person.

IWL Speaker Series on Languages for Specfic Purpose Presents a talk with Dr. Lourdes Sánchez-López, January 30 at 1:30pm NCH 162

We are happy to announce that the IWL Language for Specific Purposes Group (of which Alicia López-Operé, Paula Sprague and myself are members) in conjunction with the IWL Speaker Series has organized the visit and talk of Dr. Lourdes Sánchez-López (University of Alabama at Birmingham), a recognized scholar on this field and the Director of the Spanish for Specific Purposes Certificate program at her institution.

 

Spanish Major Declaration Workshop for New Majors (New Cabell 389)

The Spanish major declaration workshop for the Spring 2019 term will be held on Tuesday, February 12 at 5:00 p.m. in New Cabell 389. Students who want to declare a major should attend and bring a Declaration of Major form, available in the College Registrar’s Office located in Monroe Hall 101.

In order to declare a major in Spanish, a student must have completed SPAN 3010 (Grammar & Composition I) or the equivalent, with a grade of C or better. A C- is insufficient.

Graduation

The Graduation Ceremony for the Department of Spanish, Italian & Portuguese will follow the Lawn Ceremony on Saturday, May 18 at 12:30 p.m. The ceremony will be in the Culbreth Theatre (Drama Building), located at 109 Culbreth Road. (This is also the inclement weather location.)
